Montvalen

This village was the site of an ancient fort, evidenced by the discovery of gallo-roman bricks and a number of grain stores. It was called "Camp de las Armos" and stone tombs have been uncovered. In the 13 century Montvalen was under the jurisdiction of the Baillie de Villemur and passed into the royal domaine in 1271 on the death of Alphonse de Poitiers. The churches of St Fabien, St Sébastien and St Laurent de la Rivière have disappeared, the first before the Revolution, the others some time after.
